“The Future of My Dreams”

The future of my dreams is soon to become my present.  It’s amazing that it has been almost one year since I received that rejection letter from USC, and after zipping through two years’ worth of general education in less than one, I have found my revenge.  I can now approach this new stage of this academic endeavor with the confidence that my fights can be won.

The most difficult part of this journey has been the waiting game…torturous days of uncertainty, nights of lonely hoping, depression – you name it, I’ve seen and felt it all.  But now that I see a new day over the horizon, I can now say that the journey was worth the destination.  It is impossible to put this moment in words.  Never mind that, I want to forget the sadness and leave with a smile on my face.

How do you put a clear-cut definition to freedom?  To victory?  The hours I used to sit in front of the Leavey Library, behind an invisible glass bubble observing the world I thought I couldn’t attain.  Now, I will venture outside this nonexistent barrier.

Destination is clear.  Target locked.  This battle is mine to conquer.

“UCLA M&Ms”

I went back to CAMS on Monday because I couldn’t wait to tell her that the battle for USC had ended victoriously.  I walk into the classroom and I’m greeted by the same people I usually see on Fridays.  She’s surprised to see me in here but goes back to teaching while I sit next to Raksmey who’s correcting papers.

“Did you tell her?” I asked.

            “No.”

            “Good.”

After class, she greets me and asks me why I was there.

“Well,” I answer. “I learned very quickly that USC is very blantant when they state things.”

            “Oh no,” she answers back.

I pull out a black folder out of my backpack with the phrase “You’re In” printed in giant white letters.

Shocked, she runs over and gives me a hug.

We’re discussing this while she’s eating from a bag of peanut M&Ms.  She gives the last two in the bag to me.  When they tumble into my hand, I show them to her.  Blue and yellow.

            “UCLA M&Ms?”

            “Oh, that’s just so funny.”

Now just wait when it comes to football games! J
